welcome to danielhayes.me

The more I think about social media, cloud computing, and tech tools for business (all things I’ve been interested in and studying for a long time) the stronger my conclusion becomes that we’re living in an era of “insurgency” against mainstream media, information “rice bowls,” traditional publishing, big-box business attitudes, marketing and Web 1.0.  Aside from the inherent violence of actual insurgency, the components of the tech revolution resemble an insurgency in many ways…people joining together, connecting in new ways, grass roots efforts taking down the establishment, sellers vying for buyers by winning the “hearts and minds,” etc. I’ve held this “insurgency” opinion for a while and was thrilled when Seth Godin acknowledged it too in his Insurgents and Incumbents post.

Bet you can’t guess which one is me…

You’ll notice in my header image I’ve taken the liberty of paraphrasing T.E. Lawrence, or “Lawrence of Arabia” as most people commonly know him.  Following his service in as an advisor to the Arab insurgency fighting the Ottoman Turks, he said “The printing press is the greatest weapon in the armory of the modern commander.”  I’ve expounded on that a little by adding ‘The internet is the greatest weapon in the armory of the modern business owner.” I think that statement is spot on…and I feel I’m pretty damn lucky to be living in a time when the average person has the capability to reach a global audience; whether for friendship or business, to sell goods or share ideas. Unfortunately, there are still lots of business owners out there who still need some help getting in the fight.  That’s where I come in.
