As a business owner you are always trying to be ahead of the curve, in front of the action, in the the path of progress…you know what I mean, right? Of course you do! Like hockey great Wayne Gretzky said, “A good hockey player plays where the puck is…a great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”
Well, Starr Hall put together a pretty good list of social media trends to look for in the upcoming year. Of the 10, I think the most important are (her numbering) 1. Location-Based Marketing (check-in apps and local social media is really hot and getting hotter), 2. Video Platforms (a fantastic way to amplify your message and make you more “human”), 6. WordPress-Based Websites (they’re just simply the best platform to use…flexible, easy, search engine friendly), 8. Review Sites (listen to product users, not sellers…ever not read the reviews on Amazon before you buy? Me neither), Monitoring Conversations (show your customers you care what they think and care enough to respond), and finally…10. Presentation Platforms…tired of PowerPoint? Prezi rocks!
I really hope she’s wrong about 3. Text Campaigns: “As the mobile arena grows, small businesses will continue to move marketing campaigns to mobile phones.” I don’t want spamming marketers to use up my text count…I actually use texts to communicate and look when I get a notification. I really don’t want to get conditioned to ignore alerts because of spam overload.
